THE LONDON PARTICULAR
The London Particular is a research and documentary project by David Panos and Benedict Seymour, who have been documenting, theorising and acting against regeneration and gentrification in East London since 2001. Also see: www.thelondonparticular.org
The project has examined how regeneration in London represents the spatial and social restructuring of the city through the privatisation of space, housing and services and the displacement of working class communities. They have also focused on the role of art and culture in this process.
Projects included a 6 page artists’ pagework in Mute magazine, two essay films, a website and a mapping project, which both traced the connections between various institutions in East London and satirised the use of ‘mapping’ as an interrogative strategy that frequently overlooks the more subtle and complex mediations and social processes at work.
